Sketchy McDoodleton from Drawsville.

O.K. Here's a sketch I did before I went to sleep last night:

I'm going to try and get down a system where I have a specific entry for each day of the week (Fridays will be "From the Vault"; that's all I know right now). The "100 themes" will be everyday (until I finish with them), but the rest I'm unsure of. I'll keep you posted.

How quick would you say you burn through those brush pens?

Also, seeing your little pencil sketch off to the side there made me realize I was subconsciously ripping you off with this little guy I'd been doodling on post it notes at work. Darnitall.

Also, on a grammar related note, I think that should have said, "How quickly.."

As I read this comment, my last brush pen gave a final cough...(tear). Given that, I inked number 64 with a snazzy Pentel refillable brush pen that I found out about through the Big Time Attic blog (under the "Tip's and Trick's" category; it was the first post). I'm trying to get used to this new pen so I can make the switch and stop wasting all those Faber-Castells (but I love them so).

I've been playing around with the Faber-Castells, because they're so much faster than a brush, but, dang, I'm having a hard time loving them. They're so fuzzy! And they wear out in about a day. Once the work is scanned in and reduced to size, it looks just fine, but the process itself just lacks the sensuality and object-quality of the trusty ol' sable tail.

What am I missing? Am I doing something wrong? Other than speed, what's the nature of the love-connection people have with these things?

Hiya Joel,
I guess I just like the Fabers because of how stiff the brush is (I'm a control freak). I find that I can ink really fast with them and not care too much about the lines I'm making. I don't desire that great of variation in line weight (or at least I think I don't).

With a brush, I'm over-cautious and end up taking a lot longer to ink things (and over-think them as well). The Fabers DO run out too fast, but I can usually get a smooth fuzzy-free line with them for about 3 weeks (I usually swithc between two). I also hate to take a lot of supplies with me (I'm not very stationary), and fear the dreaded ink-spill.

On a side note, I have to admit that I absolutely love Dr. Ph. Martin's Bombay Black India ink; I wish I could just dip my dead Fabers in that and ink (hey! maybe I'll try it!).

With all that said, I am trying to switch over to the portable refillable Pentel, because I feel like it's a happy medium (no pun intended) for me. And the Fabers are a bit of a waste of money... Anyhow, hope that answers your questions about my Faber-infatuation.
